Sherbrooke is the primary economic, political, cultural, and institutional center of Estrie, and was known as the “Queen of the Eastern Townships.”
With 170,816 residents at the Canada 2021 Census, it is the sixth largest city in Quebec. The Sherbrooke Census Metropolitan Area had 212,105 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Quebec and 20th in Canada. Since November 2021, Èvelyne Beaudin is the mayor of Sherbrooke, making her the first woman to hold this position.
